rain soaks my skin
The first that's fallen since the spring
I breathe the clean air
the smell of smoke still in my hair

there are fires raging through
burning forests old and new
We're well past the tipping point

I watch as the dots
slowly cover up the map
I know my time will come
but I don't know if I'll run

I wonder how it feels
to see the glow up on the hill
and choose to stay

When you prowl around me, with your hungry eyes
do you even know that you do

am I predator or prey, sister or mate
I can't tell anymore

I am tired of running away, I will stay if you stay
and tend to the fire

If you'll be my anchor point, I will re-direct my flight
and we can hold the line

clearcut, high graded,
cherry picked, buffer strips
back burnt, control lines
danger falling, dry pine

As crown fires rip through crown land
I could tell you at whose hands
we've come to this

So take your hungry eyes off the landscape
put yourself back into the frame
we are not separate not above
we can not outrun the flames
